Lough Allen lies at the top of the Shannon Navigation. It is a medium size lake and is surrounded by largely traditional farming land with 3 towns at the 3 corners of its mainly triangular shape. Formerly a mining area, there is now little traditional Industry but much Enterprise and Artistic activity.

SITE MAP: EMPLOYMENT Section of Site.  (Environment Topics are listed ABOVE.)

The initiation of LoughAllenBasin.com lay in the idea of seeking new, probably Foreign Direct Investment type employemnt for the communities of the Lough Allen Basin, always bearing in mind our desire to conserve this wonderful Natural Area. These were the times of the Celtic Tiger and it was felt that high quality employment keeping educated and energetic young people in the area would help the conservation of the Environment, Plants and Wildlife. A young population enjoying modest prosperity would bring wealth to the area that could then justify the commitment to such a project.

We still believe in this policy, employment before holiday homes, good quality medium size enterprises backing up small scale individual enterprises, strict environmental controls  and water and sewage services of the highest order... such as can only be afforded with a vibrant economy in the area. Times have turned since we started. Ireland is in a down turn but this has had some conservation benefits and the welcome for new Indusrty attracted by our expected upturn will be all the greater! So, we stand by these ideas on Employment and hope that the time for their implementation may not be all that far ahead!

POLICY DOCUMENT

A Discussion of how we see the need for Employment around Lough Allen both for Social and Environmental reasons.

This Document has been written for some time and many events have taken place since then. However, we believe the basic tenet is still sound and, hopefully, economies around the world will improve and this will provide a new lift to our area.
